The ingredients required for this dish are as follows:- 1 kg chicken
- 4 cups basmati rice
- 2 onions, sliced
- 1 cup yogurt
- 2 tablespoons ginger garlic paste

- 1 tablespoon turmeric powder
- 1 tablespoon cumin seeds
- 4-5 green cardamoms
- 4-5 cloves
- 2-3 cinnamon sticks
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 cup oil
- 2-3 green chilies
- 1/2 cup chopped coriander leaves
- 1/2 cup chopped mint leaves
- 1/2 cup fried onions

Method
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a large pot and fry the onions until they are golden brown. Remove half of the onions and set them aside for later use.
- Add chicken to the remaining onions in the pot and fry until it turns golden brown.
- Add ginger garlic paste, red chili powder, turmeric powder, cumin seeds, green cardamoms, cloves, cinnamon sticks, bay leaf, and salt to the chicken and fry for a few minutes.
- Add yogurt, green chilies, coriander leaves, mint leaves, and fried onions to the chicken and cook for 5 minutes.
- Drain the water from the rice and add it to a medium pot. Add enough water to the pot so that it covers the rice by around 1 inch.
- Bring the water to a boil and cook the rice until it is around 80% done. Drain the water from the rice.
- Add the cooked chicken to the bottom of a large pot. Cover the chicken with a layer of rice.
- Add another layer of chicken over the rice, followed by another layer of rice. Repeat until all the chicken and rice is used up.
- Cover the pot and cook on low heat for 15-20 minutes.
- Garnish with fried onions, coriander leaves, and mint leaves before serving.
