Method

  1. Take a bowl and add rice flour, urad dal flour, sesame seeds, carom seeds, red chili powder, turmeric powder, oil, and salt. Mix well.
  2. Add water gradually and knead the dough. The dough should be soft, smooth and non-sticky.
  3. Fill the chakli maker or press with the dough.
  4. Heat oil in a frying pan on medium flame.
  5. Press the chakli maker and make spiral shapes on a greased plate or a cloth.
  6. When the oil is hot, gently lift the chaklis and drop them in the frying pan.
  7. Fry on medium flame until golden brown.
  8. Take them out on a paper towel to remove excess oil.
  9. Repeat the process with the remaining dough.
  10. Allow it to cool before storing it in an airtight container.

Recipe Tips

  • You can add ajwain or cumin seeds instead of carom seeds.
  • If you don't have urad dal flour, you can grind urad dal in a mixer grinder to make the flour.
  • Make sure the chakli maker or press is clean and dry before using it.
  • If the chaklis break while frying, it means the dough is too soft. Add some rice flour to make it firmer.

Enjoy the delicious and crispy chaklis with a hot cup of tea or coffee!
