- 1 tsp of chana dal
- 1 tsp of ginger garlic paste
- A pinch of turmeric powder
- 1 tsp of red chili powder
- Salt to taste
- 2 tbsp of oil
- A handful of coriander leaves, chopped

- A skillet or frying pan
- A wooden spoon or spatula
Method
- Wash the rice and soak it in water for 10-15 minutes.
- Heat oil in a large pot over medium heat. Add cumin seeds, mustard seeds, urad dal, and chana dal. Fry until the mustard seeds start to pop.
- Add chopped onions, green chilies, and ginger garlic paste. Saute until the onions turn translucent.
- Add the finely chopped cabbage and stir well. Cook for 5-7 minutes until the cabbage is tender.
- Drain the soaked rice and add it to the pot. Stir well with the cabbage mixture.
- Add 2 cups of water, turmeric powder, red chili powder, and salt to taste. Stir well and bring it to a boil.
- Reduce the heat to low, cover the pot with a lid, and let it cook for 15-20 minutes or until the rice is fully cooked.
- Turn off the heat and let the rice sit for 5 minutes. Fluff it up with a fork.
- Garnish with chopped coriander leaves and serve hot with raita or pickle.

- If you don't have basmati rice, you can use any other long-grain rice.
